Zen Art & Design

A few days after my last post here, I got a job as the Vector Illustrator & Production Assistant for Zen Art & Design, a startup in my area that manufactures artisanal wooden jigsaw puzzles. In many respects it was one of the best jobs I've ever had - I enjoyed many of my coworkers enormously, I thought we were making a really interesting product, I felt I was making a substantive contribution to the team and that contribution was valued by the rest of the team, and I learned a lot in the process.

Unfortunately, a good team and a good product aren't always enough to achieve success, and ZAD is in the process of failing as a company. At the end of April the CEO laid off all but 5 of his employees, myself included, and has since let at least 1 more go of which I am aware. I understand He continues to attend as many trade shows as he can, but I doubt he'll be able to bring in enough new business to keep the company afloat in anything but name past this year.

So! These have been on my portfolio site since before I left ZAD, but I neglected to make a news post or cross-post to my other sites at the time. Below are some samples of the work I did during my time at Zen Art & Design.
